The water level in Central Texas reservoirs & aquifers reached near-record lows during the 2008–09 drought, and was only 38% full before rainfall in 2015. Texas’ population is projected to nearly double by 2060, with Central Texas growing even more rapidly. Population of the five-county Austin region (Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson) continues to boom. Our limited water resources will have to meet the needs of more people.
Only 1% of the earth’s water is fresh and available for use, while 97% is located in salty oceans and 2% is in glacier form. Why wouldn't we want to conserve this precious resource?
